Getting an appointment has never been a problem to me because I always go to the surgery for 8:15 am. and join the short appointments queue. Each time I have done that I have been given an appointment for 08:50 or sooner, on the same day! Walk-in patients appear to be given priority over telephone patients to avoid booking conflicts with telephone applicants which is achieved by simply not answering the phone. This seems to happen at most surgeries and is becoming accepted as standard practice. For a fully retired person like myself this walk-in system is ideal, however it might not suit someone with a job who did not want to risk taking time off to queue up and then be told that, "No appointment slots are available this morning". The likelihood of this happening however, will be remote. Yesterday for example I arrived at 8:15, saw the nurse at 8:50 had an ECG at 9:10, had a doctor's opinion at 9:30, medication at 9:40 and a follow up appointment for 8:30am two days later for another ECG and ongoing treatment if necessary. Excellent service I would say!

Like many Practices now there is a chronic GP shortage here (Tories should stop cutting the NHS budget and selling it to their friends) but there are some good GPs (and some awful ones).

They do what they can with what they have.

The line is always busy and difficult to get hold of anyone. The doctors are generally good, but receptionists can be quite rude over the phone

As a student I am able to get appointments around lectures, letters for university where necessary and advice as well. Wait times could be improved especially when you have an appointment. One of the ladies at reception told me I cannot come if I do not have a telephone number 🙃 I provided an email but I needed to get a phone number before I could have started using the service. Other than that it's been great.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.
